A good weekend for movie, went to see two movies on Sunday and, to my vast happiness, they both were good.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is simply the most amazing animated movie I have seen. The animation was amazing, blending CGI with a traditional animation and just beautiful. The plot was philosophical and thoughtful as I expect from Shirow's work and the director's stylizations did not detract from the movie but added to it. Overall, I found it a wholly satisfying experience. I recommend it to any fan of anime or the cyberpunk genre, but do see the original movie first . . .

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was a 50s serial done with modern technology with nods and winks to other classic movies scattered throughout (from Star Wars to the Wizard of Oz). I would have played out even better if it could have been broken into chapters and show with the various cliffhangers separating the sections but still superb. The special effects made both great use of modern techniques while harking back to the primitive effects of the old movies. A fun ride but nothing too deep, just action and amazing effects.

A wonderful pair of SF/action movie to see, both well done, one philosophical and dark, the other a pure adventure. I recommend both.

. . . on books. Libem Liborium: The Complete d20 Guide to Books by my friend Dana Driscoll is now available. I helped work on this and it looks solid, if you are interested in using books in your D20 Fantasy setting. There are a bunch of previews available too.

Take a look and give it a try.
