Finished reading Alternate Generals II, edited by Harry Turtledove. A decent collection of alternate history stories with a military theme not as good as the first collection in my opinion but worth reading if you like the genre.

Watched The Transporter the other night. Started well but then turned into just another action movie. The first 20 or so minutes is brilliant though, shows what a modern underworld 'driver for hire' might be like, good inspiration for Shadowrun too.

There is a tempest in a teapot in the US about the Assault Weapon Ban, which was really the Guns that look kinda like assault weapons Ban , that has just expired. As the politicians attempt to make political hay from their support for this silly law, some even suggesting that those scary terrorists will now have access to nasty weapons. Yeah, like terrorist buy their weapons through legitimate channels or that they would buy semi-auto copies of real assault rifles . . . But you sound so much more self-important by adding the word 'terrorist' to any argument these days.

Oh, for any discussion of something of substance from either of the major party candidates, look else where. It seems that only the ACLU and a few others (like the Libertarians) are actually trying to speak up for our civil liberties rather than just bashing Bush, which is what Kerry is doing. Candidate Kerry has not said that he will reverse any of the anti-civil liberty laws, like PATRIOT, which Bush created and Kerry voted for. Blah. Where is the real debate? There are import things to talk about here, just neither the Democrats or the Republicans are doing so.

We need more parties in the US to spur real debate and discussion about policy.
