Weekend Movies and stuff

Had a small turn out for the Tyche's Anachronism tournament. I went 1-2 but had fun. As
coffeebadass has a charity function to attend, no advancement on Laura's campaign.
Over the weekend, rewatched some of Life on Mars on BBC America, which was reshowing the first four episodes in a row. Unfortunate, a storm knocked out the cable from the end of episode 3 to 4.
We also rewatched that classic parody Murder by Death. I had forgotten how star-studded it was (Alec Guinness, David Niven, James Coco, Truman Capote, Peter Sellers, Maggie Smith, Peter Falk, and more), though Alec Guinness as the Butler, Bensonmum, was worth the price of admission alone. Better if you are a fan of classic mysteries which this is viciously parodying (though some of the jokes just fall flat). And the house is amazing for its strangeness. My Grade: B
Additionally, watched Fort Apache starring John Wayne, Henry Fonda and the grown up Shirley Temple (!). Not your typical cavalry western, not by a long shot. The cavalry are just doing their job, the Apache are trying to survive the machinations of the US and things happen. (A good, but spoiler filled, analysis of the film Here.) Rather slow first ninety minutes, but it wraps up well except for the very end which seems to have been tacked on so that no one could accuse John Ford of being anti-American or anti-army, very weird. My Grade: B-

Date: 2006-08-28 12:28 pm (UTC)Life on Mars is also much fun, although I still have to watch the dvd which I rushed out and bought on release.
Fort Apache I probably saw in childhood, since my dad loved all westerns. Not something I would choose to watch though.
