I needed a theme for Decemeber at the Sea of Stars RPG Design Journal so I dcided on Gifts.

The first item for the theme is The Perfect Toy Box.

I am also taking requests and suggestions, so if there is something you would like to see, let me know, here or there (or both).

For the Thief in your life, why not gift them with the fabled 'Get Out Of Jail Free' card? This item is the size of a tarot card and depicts the same image on both sides; that of an ornate door, swinging ajar to reveal a warm, golden glow beyond. When this card is held against a solid structure (such as a cell wall, for example) and the command word uttered, a door matching the drawing on the card will appear in the wall, standing ajar and revealing a warm, golden glow beyond. On opening the door fully there is nothing visible except for the glow. Stepping through the portal will deposit the Thief in a place that is considered familiar and safe to the malefactor. This item has but one use.
I'm not sure how you would stat this out for D&D (I lost patience with 3rd edition some time ago) but I'm certain that you will have some ideas on that score.

Honestly, you have it there. I could add the construction bits but what you have is pretty much perfect. Just give me your name (or pseudonym) to credit it to and I will post it up in the next day or so. How does that sound?

I like 3.x/Pathfinder because you can do wacky items like this and fit them into the system too.
