May. 27th, 2007 09:24 pmLast night watched Maîtresse, a French film from 1976. It stars Gérard Depardieu, an actor who I had no strong feeling for before watching this film, who I now dislike as his character was such scum (and his acting was less than laudable). While it was interesting to watch, Depardieu's character, a small time hood, falls for a professional dominatrix, and proceeds to ruin her life. The interesting bits include the Dominatrix at work. The plot is thin and poorly constructed. At the end, I was just hoping that Depardieu's character would get waxed. My Grade: D+/C-
Today, we went off the see the third (and final?) pirates movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Amazing and frustrating by turns, some plot-lines get resolved quickly, others get half-way resolved and are allowed to fade away into the action. And there is a lot of action! Though many good actors (including Chow Yun-Fat) are criminally misused. The special effects are first rate. My Grade: C/C+
