End of the Year Anime Round Up
Dec. 30th, 2005 04:15 pmWe have been watching a lot of fan-subbed anime lately. Among the series we have watched and finished this year are:
Hikaru-no-Go, a sports anime except with Go. Very fun series, with a nod to the supernatural, if you like Go that is. I enjoyed it a lot, but I am not sure if I learned much about Go from it beyond that I do not know very much about Go.
Victorian Romance Emma, only 12 episodes out of a planned 30 were produced, so the story is incomplete but it ends on a satisfying, if unhappy, note. Superb animation, solid historical research put to good use for the piece, which is set in Victorian (c. 1880s) London.
Maria-sama ga Miteru, Japanese Catholic schoolgirl adventures. What more can I say? High on drama and low on action, but a very well written series.
Platonic Chain entirely CGI animated series of short (5-6 minute) episodes. Very focused on the effects of technology on people, struck me as very cyberpunkish. Enjoyable if weird.
