Jan. 18th, 2005 10:36 amOn this day in Georgia, with temperatures starting in the teens and raising as high as the 30s (f), I am reminded of the words of P. J. O'Rourke's mom:
Mom says, "Global warming or no global warming, it's cold out. Wear a hat."
Airbus Industries unveiled their superjumbo jet, the A380, which can carry upwards of 555 from Europe to Asia. Quite impressive and it only cost 11 billion Euro to develop. It is an amazingly large plane, take a look.
Watched most of the Blues Brothers last night. Such a fun movie. Need to add it to my list of things to get on DVD.
There is a PDF preview for the new edition of Cyberpunk 203X RPG up at R Talsorian Games (bet you did not know they were still around, I did not either). It is fascinating as it sticks to the future history established for the original Cyberpunk game published back in 1986 (or there about), check out pages 6-8 of the preview (p 12-14 of the book). Look at all of the history that did not happen.
Why did they choose to set the new Cyberpunk into what in now an alternate future rather than write a new vision for a new edition? Very strange. And the "original" cyberpunk timeline is looking a little (OK, a lot) dated:
1992, the USSR (remember them?) uses high energy laser lift arrays to get stuff into space. Ha!
1994, the global stock-market implodes.
1995, the ESA begins building a mass driver in Africa (specifically on Mt. Kilamanjaro).
1996, the US dissolves into anarchy following economic collapses, martial law declared.
2003, Second Central American War, US invades Columbia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela (wait, are not those in South America?) which goes horribly wrong. (OK, echoes of real events there, kind of. But a different part of the world entirely was invaded.)
It does not scan very well today does it . . .
Ah well, hopefully the game will still be fun.
