Christmas and thereafter
Dec. 27th, 2004 10:08 pmGood things included Peter (aka St_Rev) showed up on our doorstep (well, at my work, but the effect was the same) on Christmas Eve. Peter had vanished from our life in late May and had been entirely out of contact until reappearing. It was good to know that he was alight and he ended up staying with us from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day. Hopefully we will see him again before he heads back to Florida.
Christmas was quiet, got up around 11am, had some breakfast. Then Laura and I exchanged gifts. Mostly books, with a few other things, including a small jade lion for me. My mum sent Bisto, Turkish Delight and Bourbon Creams (along with books). (I had also given out gifts to our gaming group last week and Haikujaguar's bookmarks were a big hit.) Scotch Eggs for breakfast. Then watched Bernard and the Genie, one of our all time favorite Christmas movies, which we had just gotten on DVD.
Then our friend Eric came over for Christmas dinner. Yum! Afterward we watched Equilibrium. Such a cool movie! Christian Bale will make a great Batman, of that, I am sure of after seeing this movie. Set in a near future where a Post-WW3 superstate controls its citizens by suppressing emotions. Very well done and worth watching.
On Boxing Day, slept until noon. Slow day. Keith (aka simon_draskovic) came over later and we watch most of his new copy of the extended Return of the King. After Keith left, we watched the The Chronicles of Riddick, not as bad as I had feared. Vin Diesel does a solid job as Riddick, the plot is a little more than paper thin and the special effects are good.
And on Monday, back to work at Tyche's Games. Laura dropped the Volvo off to be checked out and it turns out we need to have the radiator replaced (an after effect of hitting a deer some months back I suspect). *sigh*
