I have been called as a witness in a civil trial so I hung out around the court house, went away for two hours, came back and was finally told to come back tomorrow. Oh, joy.
Watched Gangs of New York on Sunday. Interesting film, very well paced especially for a three hour movie. I have a few problems with the liberties taken with the history. (Why have ships shelling the city during the New York Draft Riots? It makes no sense.) Jim Broadbent is delightful as Boss Tweed, Daniel Day-Lewis makes an interesting villain and everyone else is fairly competent. The vision of the New York of the 1860s is visually stunning, Scorsese had a full set built of the Five Points area of that period, reconstructed from period photos mainly, which was just amazing. A worthwhile movie if you have the time, but, be warned that it is violent and dark.
