This is the first part of our trip down to Florida for [livejournal.com profile] doji_kumoko's graduation from Florida State with her Master of Library Information Science.

On the 13th, we left Athens later than we had planned (as corralling cats took long than anticipated) and headed down the road to Tallahassee through the wilds of South Georgia. Saw many things along the way, including peach and pecan orchards (is orchard proper for nuts?) and cotton fields, nice little towns, dying towns, lots of churches and a Titan I missile.

We arrived just before dark and made our way to the bed and breakfast we were staying at, the Little English Guest House. Quite a charming little place, we stayed in the Essex Room. Had a lovely pizza at Bianca Pizza (on Market Street) for dinner.

Next morning, a light breakfast at the B&B and then grabbed some donuts at the nearby Tasty Pastry Bakery (recommended if you like donuts!). Then into Tallahassee to explore the campus of FSU, which is quite nice with a good consistent look to the architecture. The Suwanee Dining Hall is particularly nice (a poor picture can be found part way down this page). After exploring the Campus for a few hours, we made our way to the School of Information for a meet and greet among the students and staff. That was fun for Laura to finally meet some of her classmates and professors face to face.

Then off to dinner with our friends Howard and Jen, who live in the area, and a late night of yakking. Great fun.

Saturday was a light breakfast followed by going into town for graduation. Arriving hours early we wondered around visiting a holiday market but mostly everything was closed as the business of Tallahassee is government and most everything was shut down. Finally found a nice (and open) coffee shop before heading back to the civic center. Speeches were made, degrees were awarded and finally we were on our way to Orlando . . .

To be continued.
