or even larger. [livejournal.com profile] doji_kumoko and I got to see They Might Be Giants in concert here in Athens last night (our first Athens concert!). Met up with [livejournal.com profile] coffeebadass and [livejournal.com profile] robotazalea to go. TMBG were playing at the Georgia Theater and, wow, the acoustics combined with the volume was painful, luckily [livejournal.com profile] coffeebadass (experienced Athens concert goer that he is) brought earplugs for everyone.

The show was fun, they were supporting their new album, The Else but played a lot of classics too including: Istanbul, Fingertips and Particle Man. The only song I would have liked to hear that they did not play was Ana Ng. But their show was fun, the music was good (if to loud) and a good time was had by all. However it did not end until 12:30 am so we were pretty zoned by the time we got home.

Yeah, I tried going to a Cowboy Mouth concert at the Georgia Theater once. Everyone I was with seemed to enjoy it, but I found it a terrible, painful experience. I eventually figured out that if I just stood outside\ on the street, I could hear just fine. Indeed, I found the doors filtered out a lot of the low-delay echo (insufficiently loud) and distortion noise (too high-pitched), actually improving the sound quality.

I'm told there's supposed to be an uplifting feeling of unity at rock concerts. I think instead that most people are just insane.

you never go to a club show in athens without earplugs, period, the end. TMBG was one of the quieter ones that I have witnessed :) Jucifer can remove the upper portion of your skull at 50 paces.

There's something wrong with that picture. Instead of requiring everyone to bring earplugs, wouldn't it make a lot more sense to not have the music so loud in the first place? Not to mention the great improvement it'd make in the quality of the sound.
