Aug. 30th, 2007 04:08 pmWe went to see STARDUST in the theatre, it was almost like a private showing just us and one other couple (the Beechwood did not have the film advertise on any of its signs!). Very nice fairy tale, showcasing Gaiman's talents as a writer nicely. Just a delightful movie, well cast, well directed with competent special effects. The look of Stormhold was very nice, a mixture of medieval and Renaissance Europe with enough fantastic and exotic touches to really make it feel like another world. Very enjoyable. If you like movies with a touch of magic, go see this, it is quite delightful. My Grade: B+A-
On DVD, we watched The Governess starring Minnie Driver. Set in the late Victorian period, rather slow and gray but interesting. Depressing at times but well acted with lovely costumes and locations. My Grade: C
