Review - Night Watch (Russian)
Oct. 18th, 2006 02:57 pmActually watched this over the weekend, but forgot to review it until now.
Night Watch, first in a trilogy of Russian horror films about the conflict between the Light and Dark 'Others' (supernatural beings) that exists behind the world around us. It makes a good attempt at being a plausible World of Darkness (though I doubt any link between the two). Unfortunately, I could not get the DVD to play in Russian with English subtitles so we had to watch it dubbed The filming style is dark and choppy which suits the material well. The special effects are solid and the acting, as far as I could tell, was at least competent. The plot, however, was disjointed and difficult to follow and the main character was entirely unlikable as far as I was concerned. But very much worth watching if you are a fan of the supernatural action movies (it only shades into horror at a few points), well worth seeing. My Grade: C+/B-
