Life, Reviews and Stuff
Sep. 12th, 2006 09:17 pmThe weekend was busy, I oversaw three (and played in one) tournaments: Anachronism, Legend of the Five Rings and Star Wars minis.
Also finished up a small writing project statting out M&M characters for a PDF product which was fun.
We watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou starring Bill Murray and an army of stars. Still undecided on this movie, it had some brilliant scenes and a few very funny moments, but a lot of it was flat and just odd. The weird, made-up marine life was very entertaining though and overall, I enjoyed it, just not as much as I had thought I would . . . My Grade: C+
On Monday, watched the final episode of Life on Mars. I was so pleased, they entirely managed not to screw it up at the end. The series is build around the idea that Sam Tyler is a cop in 2006, he gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. In 1973, he is a newly transferred detective. Of course, the rules (and technology) of policing is much different in 1973 and many of the stories are how he copes with that. There is a sub-plot which revolves around Sam trying to sort out why he is there and if he is in fact just trapped within his subconscious in a coma. A superb series and one that I hope has a second season. My Grade: B+/A-
