A trio of reviews
May. 29th, 2006 02:20 pmAs is usual, I have fallen behind in my reviews. Here are the recent movies that we have seen:
Three Kings, mostly an action-adventure movie set at the end of the first Gulf War (1991) and show how screwed up things were in Iraq at the end of that conflict. Clooney plays his usual ass of a character, but does a competent job. The plot is shaky at times and the politics are very heavy handed. But as it supports my view that we should have knocked Saddam's regime over in '91, it was not entirely annoying, only mostly. My Grade: C/C+
Say Anything, one of the last of the 80s teen comedies, starring John Cusack. Notable for being set in Seattle and not having an exceptional soundtrack. But nothing particularly exciting, funny or innovative. My Grade: C-
The 40 Year Old Virgin (loaned to us by
simon_draskovic). Fun, with several laugh out loud moments, but a bit long (this was the 'unrated version' with 17 extra minutes) and some of the humor just did not resonate with me. But overall, a good time. My Grade: C+
