Saving Private Ryan
Nov. 29th, 2005 12:46 pmFinally saw this on Sunday, putting another check mark on my list of films needed to be seen.
Where to begin? I guess with Saving Private Ryan has all the hallmarks of a Spielberg film, blatantly manipulative at times, often slow going without entirely destroying the pacing of the film, and full of special effects. Overall, quite good, manages some good commentary on what war is like in the front lines. The Normandy landing scenes are almost as good as I had heard (probably would have been better on the big screen). Lots of names, including a cameo by Nathan Fillion as the other Private Ryan. A good show overall, even with the schmaltz. My Grade: B/B-
