So, PBS showed Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking with Rupert Everett as Holmes, last night. Set in 1902, to show it is an entirely new story, it was competent. Everett's Holmes was solid but did not approach the mastery of the role that Jeremy Brett had and the script writer seemed to have an axe to grind about showing how Holmes was "Victorian" and not in step with the "new, progressive" 20th century nor was the writing or dialog all that sharp. The mystery itself was acceptable, certainly not in the league of the best of Conan Doyle's work but comparable with his weaker stories. Overall, worth watching if you like the Holmesian gestalt, which I do. My Grade: B

Well, technically transparent aluminum oxynitride. The US Air Force is testing a composite including it as a replacement for armor glass, your can read the report from the USAF.
