The Empire Strikes Back

Yes, in our flurry of Star Wars viewing, we watched The Empire Strikes Backs (aka Episode V). And I was surprised how little the special edition added, and what it added was usually not an improvement. Bobba Fett gets more screen time and more lines, the Emperor's face is seen, both mistakes in my opinion, and Cloud City gets windows (a plus). I was also surprised that I just did not enjoy it anywhere near as much as Star Wars itself. Yes, it is darker and I really like the battle for Hoth. The spaces scenes with multiple Imperial Star Destroyers are cool. But, I had forgotten how annoying Yoda is in this (and how wasteful Vader is of Imperial Officers). Also, Luke was not a whiny as I remembered, in fact most of his whinyness is after he has had his hand cut off so he has an excuse. Still, well worth watching. My Grade: B/B+
