I know I have fallen behind on updating my LJ, so here is a catch up of what I have been watching lately:

Memento, a very strange movie told backward in time, allowing you to unravel/semi-understand what happens in the first few minutes of the film. The main character has a brain injury and can no longer make new memories so his life is dominated by notes from himself. If you like challenging movies, this may be for you. My Grade: C+

Kingdom of Heaven, Ridley Scott's latest "historical" epic starring Orlando Bloom (who does a decent job) and Liam Neeson (reprising his role as 'guy who get killed early in the movie to inspire our hero') as a Crusader-Knight who tries to do the right thing. Apart from the violence done to history, it is an enjoyable adventure movie. Small but strong roles for David Thewlis (as 'the Hospitaler') which I quite liked, Alexander Siddig as an Arab nobleman, and Ghassan Massoud played an excellent Saladin. The costumes and sets were beautiful, the battle scenes spectacular but having little connection to actual medieval warfare. My Grade: B-

The Village by M. Night Shyamalan. A good suspenseful piece, hard to know what to say about it without screwing up the big 'reveal' for those who have not seen it. I though it was far superior in pacing, writing and plot to Signs for what that is worth. Overall, a good movie, skillfully plotted and well acted with only a few plot holes. My Grade: B

I [Heart] Huckabees, what to say about this? By turns amusing, confusion, incomprehensible and even, once or twice, actually touching on existentialism. Enjoyable, mostly, but also confused and infuriating at times. I think you will enjoy it more if you have some background in existential philosophy. My Grade: C-/C

In non-movie stuff. My physical therapy is going well. Looks like I am going to be writing for AEG on a D20 project. And I sent a short story in for a competition. Overall, good.
