Reviews and other stuff
Nov. 22nd, 2004 11:56 amSpent yesterday repainting the room we are planning to use as a library for our book collection and today my legs are sore. Cleaned the kitchen too, well Laura did most of the work while I was painting, in preparation for Thanksgiving.
Now for some reviews, two totally different types of movie, both of which I enjoyed immensely:
the Incredibles, the latest by Pixar. It is wonderfully animated, in both senses of the word. It successfully combines a slightly post-modern view on superheroes with four-color sensibilities and 60s super-spy cliches and a deep love of both genres. I really enjoyed this film and anyone who likes superheroes should go see it. It is written and directed by Brad Bird (who also voices Edna "E" Mode, the fashion designer for superheroes) who also directed the Iron Giant, which I will have to see now.
Versus by Ryuhei Kitamura. Live action, supernatural violence fest. It is so over the top, I do not know where to begin. Plot, characterization, sense, all get left behind in a frantic succession of combat scenes, flashbacks and character posturing. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, trying to impose any sort of order on the movie will only make it less enjoyable. (And for L5R fans, the villain of the piece is Iuchiban, really, just watch.)
