Haiku

Working on some Haiku for the L5R stuff and was doing a bit of looking around about Haiku.

Many haiku draw on season words, these are called Kigo and a list of them can be found here. There is a similar style of poetry called Senryƫ which are humorous. Neat stuff.

Haiku and the Virgin Queen

I write this to cheer up [livejournal.com profile] weetanya, but I liked it so much, I thought I would post it here too:

Students Venture Forth
Yet Armed Only with Knives of Words
Themselves to Conquer

The Virgin Queen is being shown in two parts. The costuming is gorgeous, the acting is good and Anne-Marie Duff really looks like the portraits of Elizabeth I. I wish it would touch a little more on the religious dimension of Elizabethan England though. A full review when it concludes next week.

Haiku

Some old haiku I found and wanted to share.

Moonlight as a Mask
Light and Shadow hide the Soul
Will you betray me?

Lord Moon now smiles
Laughing at his grandchildren
Are we not worthy?

Silver light shadows
words and spirits dance happily
All are among friends

Poppies wink at me
The coloured lanterns dance
The World is alive

Crow Haiku

Three crows fly
Black wings and dark eyes
Morrigan

My haiku for the day. I suppose I should explain how it came about. Laura and I were heading out of Athens, listening to Emerald Rose, a cool Celtic-American folk rock band were first heard at Dragon*Con. Specifically, Freya, Shakti, a song about the many masks of the goddesses, including the Morrigan. It was just chanting her name when three crows came swooping down over the hood of the car and split apart going their different ways. I remembered it when listening to the same song today and the haiku came to me after a little thought.

In good writing news, I have been asked by jim pinto, AEG's D20 line editor, to look over the latest AEG D20 project. More play-testing/advice credit for me. Rah!
