Weekend Reviews - Death at a Funeral and the Invasion

One comedy and one science fiction piece:

Death at a Funeral, directed by Frank Oz, a set piece based around a funeral with family conflicts, blackmail, and things going wrong at a stressful time. Great cast and it hits the points it should but nothing exceptional and a bit slow in getting started. My Grade: C+

The Invasion, yes, the third remake of the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I was not expecting much as it was a remark and starred Nicole Kidman but actually, I think this is the best of the remakes. No pods, instead a virus that rewrites the DNA of the infected when they sleep. Nice reworking of the original idea and good use of technology. Movie suffered from the need to have a big action sequence and dragged out a little at the end but still solid. (The DVD has a nice extra on the history of the Body Snatcher stories which was quite interesting.) My Grade: C+
